Where can I buy SGB?
Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2022 through commercial banks (Small Finance Banks, Payments Banks and Regional Rural Banks), Stock Holding Corporation of India (SHCIL), Clear Corporation of India Limited (CCIL), some post offices and stock exchanges- NSE and 23 can buy from BSE. On behalf of the Government of India, the central bank is also giving a discount of Rs 50 per gram to the people who buy gold through digital payment and online mode under this scheme. According to the RBI, such investors will have to pay Rs 5,359 per gram.

When will the fourth series of SGB open?
The Finance Ministry on Thursday said that Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) 2022-23 for the fourth series will be open from 06 to 10 March 2023. Gold Bonds under this scheme have a tenure of up to 8 years and are allowed to exit the scheme after 5 years.

Tax on Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs)
SGB has different tax rules. If held till maturity, gains from SGB are not taxed. However, investors can prematurely redeem SGBs after five years. If you keep the SGB invested for between five and eight years, the gains are treated as long-term capital gains. It is taxed at 20.8 per cent with indexation benefit.

If SGBs are sold before three years, the capital gain is added to the income of the investor and taxed based on the applicable income tax slab. Further, the capital gains earned by investors on selling SGBs on the stock exchange after three years are long-term and are taxed at 20% along with indexation benefits.
