Colgate Success Story

William Colgate was born in the year 1783 in England. He was very fond of doing business from the beginning. In this connection, he came to America. In the year 1806, he formed the Colgate Company under his name and started selling soap and candles in New York. However, he was not able to earn the desired profit. In such a situation, he started making toothpaste in the year 1873.

Toothpaste Tube Introduced

At that time, machines were not easily available for preparing the packaging of toothpaste. When William launched toothpaste after launching powder, he started selling it in cartons. Like ghee is sold in cans.

Gradually, when his business started running, he also made some improvements in the packaging. The biggest of these was the launch of toothpaste in a tube. When Colgate came on the tube in the year 1896, its popularity increased among the people. It was also easy to use the toothpaste because of the tube. Also, seeing the way Colgate was becoming popular, in the year 1928, a company named Palmolive bought Colgate. Then in 1953 its name was changed to Colgate Palmolive.

Till now Colgate had become a big name in America. But then P&G company also launched its toothpaste and gave a tough competition to Colgate. In fact, the company came out with fluoride toothpaste, the tremendous publicity of which made it a huge market. In the year 1955, it reached such a point that it left behind even Colgate.

In such a situation, Colgate was forced to change its strategy. He understood that if he wanted to survive in the market, he would have to constantly change. After this the company launched fluoride toothpaste in 1964. This returned Colgate to its former status. After this the company did experiments one after the other which people liked.

In 1992, a new product called Colgate Total was launched in the market. The company promoted this product by stating three features. It was said that the new toothpaste relieves the problem of tooth cavity, dirt and gums. This product with three features has received a good response.

After this, the company launched 14 other types of products in many countries of the world including India. From Priyanka Chopra to Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Kajol and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the company made its brand ambassador. Which made it very famous in India as well.
